Nominated Charity for 2007
We are delighted to announce that 14-21 Time to Talk is our nominated charity for the 2006 Newbury Carnival. Here is some information about their activitiesThis is a very exciting year for 14-21 Time to Talk, as we are celebrating our 21st
birthday. The agency was originally set up in 1986 under the name
NYCAS (which stood for Newbury Youth Counselling and Advisory
Service). The agency has grown over the last 21 years,
although it is important to note that 14-21 Time to Talk is not an
advisory agency. 14-21 Time to Talk offers free, professional counselling to young people between the ages of 11 and 25, residing, educating and/or working in West Berkshire.
The counselling sessions are offered on a weekly continual basis at a number of venues. Young people can access sessions at a number of our secondary schools, at three key youth centres and at our Town Hall suite. 14-21 is open during the day and the evenings at various times.
The counselling offers these young people the time and space to explore their feelings, worries and anxieties in a relaxed and non-judgemental environment. The counsellors help the young people to examine their feelings and assist them by putting coping mechanisms in place. This empowers the young people to feel more able to face the challenges that life may bring their way.
Young people 'present' with a vast array of issues. These issues may include, anxiety, bereavement, depression, school, abuse, alcohol, exam worries, families, sexuality, relationships, religion, ethnicity, leaving school, bullying. The list is endless.
The counsellors are all professionally qualified to help young people deal with the problems they face today.
We must remember that the young people of today are, of course, the adults of tomorrow.

We would also welcome hearing from anyone who may wish to join our Management Committee and have a say in how the agency is run.
